GIANT OTTERS

I found this family of three a few times in my travels along the Porto Jofre river, they became familiar. At this moment my heart broke as I heard the two parents barking and screeching in search of their missing pup. It was so hard to watch the stress and loss while they frantically combed the waters. Finally, the three were reunited, the relief and joy was so apparent in their play and manners.

Giant Otters often coordinate efforts to hunt and catch fish, to make their daily quota of six to nine pounds of fish consumed each. They may also supplement their diets with crustaceans and snakes. I can still hear the boney crunching of this meal.
